Vibe out with them as they do their best Liza Minnelli and Elizabeth Taylor.
SSION (pronounced SHUN) is the brain child/art music project of multihyphenate talent Cody Critcheloe, who recently released a new single off his upcoming third full-length studio album, O. Titled “At Least The Sky Is Blue,” the dreamy track features Ariel Pink, who Julian Casablancas recently compared to David Bowie saying “I think Ariel Pink will be one of the best-remembered artists of this generation and now nobody in the mainstream knows him.” Regardless if you belive in Ariel Pink like Casablancas, “At Least The Sky Is Blue” is a great song and SSION is an underrated star.
An artist known for always creating must see music videos, the visual for “At Least The Sky Is Blue” is perhaps the best SSION video yet. It’s an ode to the neon lit & glossy character that is LA with a side of sex and salad where porn star Adam Ramzi plays SSION’s brother/lover. As if that wasn’t enough, the queer masterpiece closes with SSION and Ariel Pink doing their best Liza Minnelli and Elizabeth Taylor.
As SSION explains…
“I wanted to make a narrative music video that felt akin to the cult gay movies I grew up worshipping but with a modern twist and modern accessories…. something romantic and tragic but still winking and smirking along the way. Set against a psychedelic and exhausted LA backdrop, I find myself deep inside a cliche: a crush on someone unattainable. Crushes can leave a bigger stain than a relationship because you fall in love with the potential of something rather than the reality. When it never fully manifests you always play back the fantasy in your head and it becomes more romantic, tragic, psychedelic… massive.”
