Lorde is back with her first single in nearly three years. Listen to ‘Green Light’.

In a series of cryptic tweets over the past week, Lorde (aka Ella Yelich) has teased the release of her first single in nearly three years – which we now know is titled ‘Green Light’.

The track is the New Zealand native’s first solo release since she dropped her debut album ‘Pure Heroine’ in 2013. She’d since released collaborations with electronic duo Disclosure and provided the lead single for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part One’ soundtrack, but this will be the first single off her highly anticipated sophomore record, ‘Melodrama’.

The track itself is unexpected, fun, and upbeat – a definite departure from the singer’s past releases. Produced by Jack Antonoff (who ended up producing a majority of the album), Lorde describes this track as the ‘epiphany moment’ for the record – it finally helped her nail down the direction of her new sound. A sound that’s definitely grown.

It’s the first chapter of a story I’m gonna tell you, the story of the last 2 wild, fluorescent years of my life. This is where we begin,” she explained on Twitter, going on to say that this track is about what happens after going through a heartbreak.

The accompanying video shows the 18-year-old running through the streets, singing out the window (and dancing on top) of her SUV, and partying in a club. She’s grown up, it would appear. There’s no release date yet, but we can’t wait to see what the rest of the album holds.

Watch the video, directed by Grant Singer, below and let us know what you think in the comments! You can catch her live this summer, as she makes her way through the festival circuit – she was just announced as a headliner for Montreal’s Osheaga, August 2-4.

Expected drop date, June 16 2017. Get it NOW
