Is this the best video we’ve seen this year?
Rife with social commentary and symbolism, Kendrick Lamar‘s stunning video for his brand new track HUMBLE. is the best we’ve seen in a long, long time.
Kendrick dropped the song and video together last night, and it’s the first track we’re being treated to from his buzzed-about upcoming album. Kdot spits over a simple but hard-hitting Mike WiLL Made-It beat and the sound can’t help but remind us of Good Kid M.A.D.D. City-era Kendrick.
The video, directed by Dave Meyers and The Little Homies, has already amassed over 4 million views since its drop last night and has got a ton of people talking. It’s chock full of symbolism and illusion and sees Lamar as the pope, bathed in light, sitting down at a recreation of the last supper, playing golf, and sitting at a hair salon. His slightly feminist lyrics also have people talking and praising his anti-photoshop stance – “Show me something natural like afro on Richard Pryor / Show me something natural like ass with some stretch marks.”
Watch the video above and let us know what you think in the comments. And mark April 7 in your calendars – if this track and The Heart Part IV are any indication, this album is going to be fucking fire.
