Don’t worry, it’s not all sloppy mucky smelly green salves. There’s a reason cannabis-infused skincare is the new hot thing in beauty right now. Not only are these green leaning products more natural on that stunning skin of yours, but to quote Forbes, “hemp-derived CBD has been touted in several medical studies as having a myriad of health benefits.” 

We here at Weedbox carry a range of various cannabis-infused products (from lip balm to beard oil) for this very reason. One of those cannabis beauty brands we love is Swedish-born Herb Essentials, so we chatted with co-founder Ulrika Karlberg about why cannabis infused skincare is the real thing. What got you interested in forming/working with Herb Essentials?

We started talking about the idea of cannabis infused skincare during a weekend in LA and when we, after some initial research, realized the potency of cannabis as a skincare agent, we felt like we owed it to the idea to realize it. This plant is truly remarkable and we have only scratched the surface of its potential so far. Herb Essentials was founded by Robert Lund and myself, partners in life and partners in business. We both come from backgrounds in marketing and branding and have always wanted to create something of our own, together.

What makes cannabis-infused beauty products unique?

We use cannabis sativa seed oil as the main ingredient in all our current products. In fact, each product is engineered around cannabis sativa seed oil and then combined with different organic ingredients to maximize the effects of a specific product; be it a lotion for your body or a facial moisturizer. Instead of emulating or adding a layer of protection or hydration, it triggers your skin to take care of itself. Because of the fact that it’s biologically compatible with the oils found in your skin naturally, it can help your skin reset when it’s thrown off balance due to the circumstances of your life (working hard, going out, stress, etc).

Just like your mind, your skin needs the right stimulation to stay creative. Cannabis sativa seed oil is also known for its ability to keep skin clear. It’s one of the rare oils that scores a 0 on the comedogenic scale which basically means that it doesn’t clog pores. It’s also rich in antioxidants, especially Vitamin E, which can help keep skin from aging and has well-documented anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.

What’s your favourite Herb Essentials product?

Wow, that’s like asking someone to tell you which of their children they like the most! Jokes aside, if I had to pick one, I’d probably say our moisturizer because of the way that it balances my skin through seasonal changes. I’ve got very sensitive skin that easily gets oily in the summer and really dries up in the winter and have really felt that it’s helped my skin adjust this past year.

* Author’s note: I’ve been using the Herb Essentials moisturizer and it’s a dreaaaaaam. Smells like apple cider, but better? Also it feels great to know I’m taking care of my face using organic shit, no harsh chemicals on this mug!
